These cufflinks feature a luckenbooth design which, according to legend, was first sold from "locked booths" in Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Traditionally, luckenbooth brooches were given by young men to their fiancees and, on the arrival of the first child, the brooch was pinned to the christening shawl to ward off evil spirits.
